9 Places We’ve Seen Lost’s Apollo Bar

There is a "Lost" Easter Egg on Call of Duty: MW3, where you can see Lost's Apollo Candy Bar.

Throughout the 6 years we watched and discussed ABC’s LOST, one of the many mysteries revolved around a nutty, chocolate candy bar called ‘Apollo’.

The Apollo chocolate bar was the only food item we saw on the island without the Dharma branding. However it was much bigger than just a piece of candy.

During The Lost Experience in 2006, real Apollo Bars were manufactured & distributed amongst Lost fans worldwide, tying into the mysterious online game.

A detailed history about the company and its founder was also provided on the Apollo website, where we found out that the manufacturer, the Apollo Candy Company, was founded in San Francisco in 1962.

During difficult times in the 1970s, the company was saved by Alvar Hanso, the head of the Hanso Foundation – the same company who funded the Dharma Initiative.

However, we’re not here to talk about the mysteries, today we’re going to look at 8 different places we’ve seen Lost’s Apollo bar.

    Lost

    Lost - Apollo Bus

Obviously. But the not-so-obvious location of the Apollo bar is in the episode ‘Not In Portland’.

Juliette truthfully jokes to Richard Aplert, saying that the only way she would be able to go on this mysterious adventure is if her ex-husband was to be hit by a bus.

Then lo and behold, a bus hits him.

But what’s this got to do with Apollo?

Well, it’s difficult to see in the episode, as it happens so fast, but the bus actually has a large poster advertising Apollo on the side.

Also, be careful what you wish for!

    The Purge: Election Year

While we’re on the subject of Juliette, the actress Elizabeth Mitchell was a lead role in the 2016 Purge film, and if you didn’t see the Apollo bar, you’re going to kick yourself!

The candy that the child thief tries to steal was an Apollo chocolate bar.

Thankfully she puts it back and causes no further issues…

    Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time - Apollo Candy Bars

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are writers for both Once Uupon A Time and Lost.

We actually see the Apollo bar in many episodes.

Henry tells his mother that it’s his favorite candy.

We see various characters interacting with the nutty, tasty treat, including Jiminy Cricket, The Evil Queen and of coarse Emma Swan.

We also see the Apollo bar in various sizes, whereas in Lost, we only saw the 1 size.

    Brooklyn 99

Brooklyn 99 - Apollo Chocolate Bar

An undoubtedly funny television series with Andy Samburg as the main role.

In the episode ‘Bureau’, there’s a scene at the end in the hospital, after they arrest a dirty FBI agent, where Captain Hoult tries his first Apollo bar.

Upon eating, he says “Chocolate and Nuts, actually that’s overkill“.

    Dead of Summer

Dead of Summer - Lost Reference

We’re bringing back 3 names we’ve already heard so far in this article:

Dead of Summer is created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, and stars none other than Elizabeth Mitchell.

In Season 1 Episode 6, ‘The Dharma Bums’, the candy bar that Drew hands over to Blair was indeed Apollo, but not like were used to seeing.

The Apollo in this are actually Peanut Butter Cups – they’re still full o’ nuts though!

    Squeegees

    Squeegees - Apollo Bar Diagram

Squeegees was a 2008 web series by ABC.

Apollo bars are seen in episode 2, where one of the characters breaks through a window where a meeting is taking place.

The topic of discussion is whether or not there should be more nougat in the bars, and a diagram of an Apollo bar is shown.

As well as the wrappers on a white board, and more nougat related information.

Personally, I think 30% extra nougat is overkill – I’m sure Captain Hoult would agree.

    Scrubs

Scrubs - Apollo Bar in Vending Machine

Apollo Bars are featured in the season 7 premiere of Scrubs ‘My Own Worst Enemy’.

This episode first aired on October 25, 2007, where they were spotted as part of the supply of a vending machine.

They were also in Season 8 in the episode ‘My Chief Concern’.

During the Brain Trust meeting, an Apollo Bar can be seen in the vending machine.

    Insatiable

    Apollo Bar in Netflix's Insatiable

If you want to spot the Apollo bar in the Netflix original series, Insatiable, you won’t have to wait long. Within the first 5 minutes of the Pilot episode, you’ll spot it!

Main character, Patty Bladell, suffers with an eating disorder. She runs into a boy she likes at a local convenience store, where her friend tells him Patty wants to go on a date with him.

After being rejected, Patty sits out front on the curb, eating the Apollo bar for comfort.

She’s approached by a homeless man who asks her for money – then changes his mind and asks for the candy bar. “It’s not like you need it, fattie,” he mocks her, and she punches him in the face.

To be fair, if someone tried to take my Apollo bar, I’d punch them too!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

COD - Abollo Bar - Lost Easter Egg

This is definitely my favorite place I’ve seen the Apollo bar.

On the multiplayer map Underground, head inside the station, and check out the news stand.

You’ll see various candy above the magazines, and right next to the Beef Jerky, you’ll find the Apol- wait… It’s actually been renamed to ‘Abollo’.

Other Lost References in Call of Duty

This wasn’t the only Lost reference in Modern Warfare 3 either, on the Village map, just outside of the playable are, there’s a familiar looking hatch, with the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 inscribed on the front.

In fact, it’s not just MW3 that has Lost references, the entire Call of Duty series has many Easter eggs!

We hear the numbers on the Zombies map Verrückt, shortly after the power is turned on.

And we see the numbers again in Black Ops 3, if you go to the Paintshop from the main menu, on the Man-O-War assault rifle, you’ll see the numbers printed on the top of the gun!

As an interesting side note, Jack Grillo, who worked as an additional sound designer on the first episode of Lost, also sound designs for Call of Duty.

Lost’s music producer Michael Giacchino has also worked on various Call for Duty games – Coincidence? Or fate?

Is it even Lost’s Apollo Bar?

We all know it as the Apollo bar from Lost, however the Independent Studio Services (ISS) is actually the creator of the famous Apollo bar prop.

Their props are seen on many other TV shows & films, including Heroes, The Big Bang Theory, 24, 90210 and Breaking Bad.

So we may call it the chocolate bar from Lost, but in reality, it could appear anywhere, without ABC’s permission.

But to me, it will always be seen as a Lost Easter Egg.
