1994 Seal released their hit single “Kiss from a Rose.”
The song went on to win a Grammy Award and was Song of the Year.
1966 NASA launched Gemini X, the tenth spaceflight of the Gemini program.
The mission's primary objectives were to try and dock with an uncrewed spacecraft in Earth's orbit to further advance NASA's capabilities of docking with other spacecraft. The spaceship was crewed by just two astronauts, John Young and Michael Collins, the latter of which would later pilot the Apollo 11 command module. The mission was a complete success, with Collins even getting a chance to become the first person to spacewalk twice.
1951 American boxer Jersey Joe Walcott became the oldest heavyweight champion aged 37.
1936 American mobster Charles Luciano (also known as Lucky Luciano) was trialed and sentenced to 30-50 years in prison.
