1981 Queen Elizabeth II was shot with six blank rounds by a youth.
The prank was committed by Marcus Sarjeant. On this day, the queen was riding a horse when she was fired at. The queen managed to keep her horse under control, and when Sarjeant was questioned, he stated, "I wanted to be famous. I wanted to be a somebody."
1981 Tom Snyder interviewed notorious killer Charles Manson on NBC’s Tomorrow Coast to Coast show.

1920 US Post Office banned customers from mailing children and animals.
The choice came after several cases, including; parents mailing their child to their grandparents, a woman in the middle of a divorce mailing her child to the father, and somebody mailing a skunk.
1865 President Andrew Johnson reorganized the Confederate States.
Part of his reorganization was to bring Southern governing areas into account.
1834 Leonard Norcross was granted the first US patent for an underwater diving suit.
Norcross invented the first closed helmet for diving made entirely from lead with an air pipe that went from the helmet to the water's surface.
