1988 Flight attendant Clarabelle “C.B.” Lansing was blown out of Aloha Airlines Flight 243.
The flight departed from Hilo International Airport and was scheduled to land in Honolulu. The explosive decompression of the plane tore off a large section of the roof of the aircraft. Flight attendant Lansing was ejected from the plane, and her body was never found. There were no other fatalities.
1978 Mohammed Daoud Khan, the President of Afghanistan, was assassinated in a coup.
The coup was led by pro-communist revolutionaries and the nation's military, who were displeased with Khan's autocratic rule.
1967 Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali lost his boxing title after refusing to join the army.
Muhammed Ali stated he could not join due to religious reasons. He had changed his name and converted to Islam in 1964.
1958 Vice President Richard Nixon started a goodwill tour in South America to show that the US was committed to the region.
1958 After 104 episodes, Adventures of Superman aired its final episode.
