Barbie dolls are the most well known doll ever produced in doll history and is sold in over 100 countries.
It is estimated that two Barbie dolls are sold somewhere in the world every second of every day, which earns them roughly $1.5 billion dollars per year.
The first Barbie doll was made in Japan and wore a zebra striped one piece swimsuit, high heeled open toe shoes and had either brunette or blonde hair.
Now there are over 80 different careers, the first was as a teenage fashion model, but now there are doctor careers, rock star, lawyer, pop star, army and even astronaut!

Barbie was named after Barbara Handler, the daughter of Ruth handler, who was the creator of the Matell Company (The Matell Company being the creators of Barbie).
The Matell Company has made roughly one billion different fashion outfits for Barbie and her friends.
They have also made more than one billion pairs of shoes; that’d be a nightmare choosing which ones to wear!
One question that made me laugh about Barbie is: “If Barbie’s so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?” And it’s a sensible question really.
